I'm quite certain this painting was painted en plein air (outside on location) either by a tourist taken by the charm of the scene, or by a local amateur artist, perhaps the home owner/tenant.
The scene is a small whitewashed crofter's cottage beside a lake or fjord and almost dwarfed by the rolling hills or mountains. My guess this is Ireland or Arran Islands. The scene is both a romantic pastoral and desolate landscape.
The painting is 10.5 x 14 inches and is signed F G Winn. (Please note that I cannot be positive about the signature. That is my best guess.) The painting is on heavy water color paper with a fairly coarse tooth. It has been backed with a piece of white paper but I don't know why. It was probably applied with spray glue so I have not attempted to remove it. Around the edges where it is a little loose in places, the back of the painting seems to be blank.
The painting is ready to mat and frame. It would make a restful addition to a cottage room. It will be shipped flat with extra stiffening.
