E. Annie Proulx writes about supposedly ordinary people in ways that make them seem very real. This is an intriguing book about a handmade accordion that begins its life in Italy, emmigrates to the USA and is passed, lost, won, broken and rebuilt so many times it surpasses the combined lives of a dozen cats.
This is a fascinating saga of generations of people whose livelihood, ethnic cultures, music preferences or all of the above revolve around the accordion.
543 pages of escape into a world of polkas, competitions, poverty and greed with a most ironic ending.
Published by Fourth Estate, London. 1996. Excellent once read condition. This has had the fly page corner clipped. From non-smoking home.
