This memoir by Maya Angelou begins following WWII and continues through her young adulthood. The Maya we tend not to remember, before she became a writer and famous, revered even. Gritty and honest and painful even, yet at the end she has made perhaps the most important decision of her life. The other decison would most surely have deprived the world of her rich body of literature.
1977 soft cover published by Bantam Books. It is in excellent condition, probably never read.
