Judy Blume is best know for her very controversial teen/pre-teen novels that deal with modern day issues confronting young people. She has received many awards and much adulation for this work at the same time being banned in many schools and libraries for her frank discussion of topics many prefer to keep silent about.
Judy Blume has also written a number of books for adults and Summer Sisters is sort of a cross-over book dealing with a friendship that starts in 1977 when they meet in junior high and continues until 1996. The early section is typical giggling girls curious about their bodies and boys, annoyed by brothers, frightened my misbehaving parents. The girls have nothing in common except age, so why does Caitlin insist on Victoria spending summers with her at her father's summer home on Martha's Vineyard? As they mature, their paths separate and Caitlin the stronger teen, pales compared to Victoria who takes advantage of the opportunities offered her by the wealthy Somers family.
Published by Delacorte Press in 1998, this is a first edition but not the first printing. The book is hard cover with dust jacket. Once read it is in excellent condition with a couple of dots of what looks like splashed coffee on the edge of the pages. 400 pages.
