This is how it all began. A lifetime of diary writings that began at age eleven when Anais Nin's family broke apart and she began expressing herself on paper. The tone, the questions, the introspection bear a striking similarity to Anne Frank's diary written almost 30 years later. What is so remarkable is that while Anais lived an exciting and successful life and Anne's was a short life of fear and secrecy and imprisonment ending tragically in a concentration camp, their adolescence and early womanhood, their inner beings were amazingly alike.
This is a stated first edition published by Harcourt Brace Jovanovich in 1978. The diary was edited by Nin's husband, Rupert Pole, and published posthumously according to her last will and testament. It is 518 pages. Condition is fine book in near fine dust jacket. Some fading and jacket imprint has leached onto the book cover a bit. The preface was written by Joaquin Nin-Culmell, Nin's youngest brother.
The book contains many photographs of Anais and family and her sketches and notes. An interesting look into the life of an extraordinary young lady. Linotte is a name she gave herself and means a feather-headed little bird.
I have an extensive collection of Nin's work listed and will gladly combine items to save you on shipping.
