Quartet was published in 1928 with the title Pastures. This is the Penguin Books soft cover edition and is a 1977 reprint. The book is 144 pages and in near fine condition. It is once read, clean and tight. From a non-smoking home.
From the back cover:
'The Place Blanche, Paris, Life itself. One realized all sorts of things. The value of an illusion, or instance, and that the shadow can be more important than the substance.' The winter-wet streets o Montparnasse, pernods in smoke-filled caes, cheap hotel rooms with mauve-flowered wallpaper, and Marya Zelli, trying to make of her life something substantial to withstand the unreality of what is about her. Alone, her Polish husband in prison, she has been taken up by an English couple who slowly overwhelm her with their passions. The husband demands, the wife fosters, Marya is left--as always--to comfort herself. Jean Rhys at her melancholy best.
I have other Rhys books listed and will gladly combine items to save on shipping.
