This book is a must for social and cultural historians or people fascinated by the 1950s, It is a home economics textbook that according to the foreward was intended for use in elementary and junior high schools.
The contents of the book are geared towards having a home so evidently the students taking the course were not expected to finish high school before setting up a household. When I took home ec in junior high the last thing on my mind was keeping house. I didn't even make my own bed. Maybe I was just not domestic but this book has charts showing where on animals various cuts of meat come from, has lots of recipes for soup, cakes and cookies, and shows how to set a table and serve a meal. All in all an interesting look back at our recent domestic past.
The book is hard cover, red cloth covered boards, no dust jacket and is a product of the Ministry of Education in British Columbia. It has a sub title Home Economics Circular No, 1. It was published in Victoria, BC in 1956 and printed by Don McDiarmid, printer to the Queen's most excellent majesty. 177 pages plus several blank pages in the back for notes.
Condition is excellent for its age. Previous owner's name inside the front cover but no writing in the text or note pages. Some shelf wear to the edges but it is really insignificant.
