If you have a large family and circle of friends, this is a book you should buy by the dozen, or if you receive this book in your hour of sorrow, when you have healed, pass it to someone who then needs it more than you.
It is a beautiful compendium of poems, thoughts and sayings about death, mourning, heartbreak and sadness. The entries are written by the famous and not-so-famous. They say what most of us are unable to find words for: how much you want to share and understand the other's pain.
This is not a sappy or maudlin book as so many sympathy cards are. This quote from the editor's introduction says it best. "This, then, is our gift to the grieving heart. Let the messages in this little book remind you that death can never extinguish our love. It cannot suppress our faith. It cannot restrain our hopes. It cannot destroy our compassion. It cannot end our friendship. It cannot tarnish our memories. It cannot silence our courage. It cannot conquer our soul. It cannot vanquish our spirit. And it cannot steal eternal life." Dan Zadra
The book was compiled by Dan Zadra with Marcia Woodard. ISBN 0-00-225526-X. The book is hard cover, near unmarked and unremaindered with fine dust jacket. It is 125 pages. Publisher is Compendium Inc. Copyright 1997. No further printing information so it may be a first edition.
