Raoul Dufy (1877-1953) was a French artist who knew early recognition and considerable success in his lifetime. He was influenced by the Impressionists in his early years and tried his hand at Fauvism, Cubism and Expressionism before developing his own style of skeletal structures on a diminishing background. This style is sometimes described as stenographic.
Dufy is best known for his scenes of outdoor leisure activities and his most famous works are seascapes with yachts, parties, and other events.
This serigraph is one of a series of horse racing works. I am listing others.
The serigraphic print was published by the New York Graphic Society, Fine Art Publishers, no date given. It is entitled Track at Ascot and shows the grandstands in the background with a horse drawn carriage and escort in the foreground. It is 11.5 x 13 inches with the actual print being 7.5 x 9 inches. This is not matted or framed.
It was printed in the USA and is #3806. This is not a limited edition number but either a style number or the plate number from a series. The serigraph is signed on work in the lower right corner.
This print is a sample and has a faded stamp on the back. This barely shows on the front. In the white cloud above the tallest building you can see what remains of the stamp. Otherwise the print is in excellent condition. This is probably between 50 and 60 years old. Paper is not as white as it originally was. This print has been priced accordingly.
