Katherine Christian is the sixth novel in the Herries series about the history of England for four centuries culminating with the civil war between those factions supporting King Charles I and those favoring Cromwell. The series began in the Elizabethan age with The Bright Pavillion.
Katherine Christian is unfinished and Walpole's final contribution before his death was May 1941. He did not leave any notes on where he intended to take the novel. The publishers however felt the manuscript should be published and it has been left as Walpole left it.
